Many people are puzzled why I called blog "My Happy Stroke." Even I forget why I chose the name sometimes.
So I wrote About My Blog's Name, partly to remind myself of what I was feeling in the early days of my recovery.

Grace, This is such a straight to the heart description of the way it was, when your stroke happened. A massive stroke is never a "happy" event, but there was a certain way in which yours could be described as "happy." I think it's just lovely that you've pulled this out, so other stroke survivors can look at it, think about it, feel better about it. love, Mum
ReplyDeleteI also experienced a cessation of critical thinking after my stroke. Unfortunately this lasted for only about a year. I'm meditating again to try to turn off the little voice in my head. People who have enough brains cells with nothing better to do than keep up a running commentary on what's happening are not as happy.

ReplyDeleteGrace, You are not the only stroke survivor I know who seems to have developed a more relaxed and sunnier outlook on life in general. And though some of the earlier "happiness" has abated, there's an abiding sense that life just isn't as -- I don't know, maybe serious -- as it once seemed. It may just be a matter of the stroke's having put some things of less significance in perspective. Whatever, the name is perfect, the blog is wonderful, you are amazing! XOX, Jaylyn
