Challenge 6: The Mall

I drove to the mall for the first time. I went in, had a sandwich, and went home.

I've never been that much into shopping, especially at the mall. I'm not, in general, a triumphant shopper. And over the last three years, I've gotten really good at ordering things online.

And yet, going to the mall--either alone or with my kids--is one of these ordinary experiences I wanted to try. Not because I enjoy it that much, but because of all the other things in it that make me feel like a semi-competent adult. Dealing with traffic, parking, food, crowds, fast-talking sales people--it's all part of rehab.

  2. I am so happy for you. Spending hours waiting for and riding on a paratransit bus to shop taught me to stop taking driving to the mall for granted. After nine years of driving I still find myself saying thank you for having a car that can take me to four stores in a row.

  3. Congrats, Grace! It's another first - and I love celebrating those. The mall is a tough place to shop - in local stores that don't have shopping carts, I put items in a sling bag and take them one-at-a-time to make a pile on the counter. In mall stores, I still have trouble figuring out how to carry things, so I go with a friend. Thursday, I'm meeting an old friend at the mall; I still have to figure out what to buy.
